Youths Rally for Climate Action: BluegreenISDN Joins LCOY South South Regional Summit in Uyo

As the world gears up for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP) in Balem, Brazil, youth from Nigeria’s South South Region converged in Uyo for the 2025 Local Conference of Youth (LCOY). Themed “Youth at the Frontlines of Climate Justice: Accelerating Action for a Just and Sustainable Future,” the event united young leaders, experts, and activists to shape Nigeria’s path toward sustainability.

Hosted by the Clement Isong Foundation in partnership with Actionaid and other organizations, the summit explored critical issues like youth inclusion, climate justice, and accountable governance. Speakers tackled pressing challenges—from the pitfalls of carbon credits to the demand for climate-responsible policies and green livelihoods. Interactive sessions sparked collaboration, with participants agreeing: people, not just technology, are key to driving climate solutions.

BluegreenISDN, represented by Communication Lead MfrekeAbasi Okim, advocated for greater youth representation and opportunities beyond capacity building, emphasizing that young people are the innovative force behind a greener future. “We hope COP yields tangible outcomes, especially for the Global South,” the group stated.

The conference fostered partnerships and idea-sharing among young change-makers, amplifying efforts for a resilient Nigeria.
