Young Climate Advocates Gather for Uyo Young Climate Activists Hangout 1.0

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – February 28, 2025

The Uyo Young Climate Activists Hangout 1.0 brought together passionate young minds dedicated to driving climate action and environmental advocacy in Akwa Ibom State. Organized in partnership with BlueGreen Initiative for Sustainable Development Network and Safe Space Development Foundation , the event served as a platform to educate, empower, and connect emerging climate leaders.

Building a Generation of Climate Champions

The Director of BlueGreen Initiative for Sustainable Development Network, Mr. Ediongsenyene Ndunbong, and the Director of Safe Space Development Foundation, Miss Evelyn Eyo, inspired participants by sharing their experiences in environmental advocacy. They emphasized the need for mentorship, resilience, and collaboration in the climate action space.

Distinguished Speakers & Special Guests

Keynote speaker Mrs. Ini Ubong Umoh, Deputy Director (Science) and Head of Climate Change & Awareness, Akwa Ibom State, officially inaugurated the Uyo Young Climate Activists, encouraging them to embrace mentorship, continuous learning, and active participation in climate initiatives.

Other distinguished guests included:
Mr. James Akan, Director of Experience Academy, who spoke on innovative climate education.
Mr. Ubong Matthew, Director of Plasticultured, who shared insights on tackling plastic pollution.
Mr. Ini Obong Uko, Coordinator of YALI Hub Akwa Ibom State, who emphasized the power of youth-led advocacy.

A Call to Action for Young Climate Leaders

The event underscored the critical role young people play in solving global climate challenges. The newly inaugurated Uyo Young Climate Activists were tasked with promoting climate education, sustainable practices, and active engagement in environmental issues within their communities.

As the first of its kind, the Uyo Young Climate Activists Hangout 1.0 marks the beginning of a stronger, more connected youth-led climate movement in Akwa Ibom State.
