Niger Delta Region Strengthens Climate Resilience: Workshop on Youth and Women-Led Climate Adaptation and Economic Justice
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Climate and Sustainable Development Network of Nigeria (CSDevNet) recently organized a two-day workshop, held on July 10th-11th, 2025, focused on empowering youth and women in climate adaptation and economic justice strategies for the Niger Delta Region. The event brought together participants from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the private sector, and community leaders from across the region to develop effective solutions to the pressing issues of flooding, oil spills, and agricultural sustainability.
The Niger Delta Region is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including frequent flooding and oil spills that devastate local ecosystems and communities. Agriculture, a vital sector in the region, is also threatened by climate variability, making it essential to develop climate-resilient strategies that support local farmers and promote sustainable livelihoods.
The workshop provided a platform for participants to share experiences, identify challenges, and develop innovative solutions to these pressing issues. Through interactive sessions, expert presentations, and group discussions, participants explored ways to enhance climate resilience, promote sustainable agriculture, and support economic justice in the region.
The Executive Director of Bluegreen Initiative for Sustainable Development Network (BluegreenISDN), Ediongsenyene Ndunobong, and the Communication Lead, MfrekeAbasi Okim, represented the organization at the training. “We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable development and climate justice in the Niger Delta Region,” said Ediongsenyene Ndunobong. “This workshop has provided a valuable opportunity for us to engage with stakeholders and contribute to the development of effective strategies for addressing the climate crisis in our region.”
The workshop is part of CSDevNet‘s ongoing efforts to promote climate action and sustainable development in Nigeria. By empowering youth and women to take a leading role in climate adaptation and economic justice, the organization aims to support the development of inclusive and sustainable solutions that benefit local communities and contribute to a more equitable and climate-resilient future for the Niger Delta Region.
